I didn’t realize it was the same author until later, when I looked up Elizabeth Hay’s work because I was enjoying Late Nights on Air so much.
Late Nights on Air won the 2007 Giller Prize and I have to say that the award was very well-deserved. I have read 2 of the Giller Prize winners: Clara Callan and The Time in Between, and finalists Alligator, A Complicated Kindness, Oryx and Crake and A Student of Weather. Alligator and A Complicated Kindness didn’t make it for me but Oryx and Crake is still one of my favourite reads. So I can say that I trust the Giller Prize and I am glad we have this type of recognition for CanLit.
Late Nights on Air happens in Yellowknife and it has nice descriptions of the north. It made me want to go someday soon and visit. It has good character development and flow of the story. Overall, I really recommend this book, it is a great and enjoyable read. I even cried a little.
