Late Nights on Air by Elizabeth Hay

This was last month’s book club pick, and I have to say it was one of the best we’ve read. We read Elizabeth Hay on the very first book club meeting, back in November 2003 we read A Student of Weather (actually I am the only remaining member of book club from back then). I didn’t realize it was the same author until later, when I looked up Elizabeth Hay’s work because I was enjoying Late Nights on Air so much.

Late Nights on Air won the 2007 Giller Prize and I have to say that the award was very well-deserved. I have read 2 of the Giller Prize winners: Clara Callan and The Time in Between, and finalists Alligator, A Complicated Kindness, Oryx and Crake and A Student of Weather. Alligator and A Complicated Kindness didn’t make it for me but Oryx and Crake is still one of my favourite reads. So I can say that I trust the Giller Prize and I am glad we have this type of recognition for CanLit.

Late Nights on Air happens in Yellowknife and it has nice descriptions of the north. It made me want to go someday soon and visit. It has good character development and flow of the story. Overall, I really recommend this book, it is a great and enjoyable read. I even cried a little.

There are no direct flights Toronto-Los Cabos

OK, so you may be able to take a charter for a direct flight, but you will have to take it from Wednesday to Wednesday, or from Thursday to Thursday, or whatever the charter company organizes. They’re usually once a week only. So it doesn’t quite work out if you have a different schedule for your trip.
We are taking a connection flilght in the US, it takes longer, but it doesn’t cost more than said charter flight.
I’m so excited, we’re going to Cabo San Lucas!!

OK, so I bought this kit at Lettuce Knit 2 months ago, and I’ve been knitting it ever since. It is taking me a long time, and the pattern is not quite looking like the pattern in the picture. I just started the arm decreases on the first part, and I’ve had a couple of pattern emergencies. You probably can’t see it but it is full of mistakes. But it’s turning out nice and I hope to finish it in about 1 more month, I’m excited about this project!
